So yeah. Captain Marvel’s name is officially being changed to Shazam- even though there is already a character in the Captain Marvel universe named Shazam. Part of it is the decades long copyright infringement with Marvel comic’s Captain Marvel and part of it is the idea that since the comics are usually titled “Shazam”, “Power of Shazam” and so forth the general public thinks that’s what his name already is. If his name matches the name on the covers then it will help with Branding. That’s a load crap because comics aren’t an expanding market full of potential new customers. It’s got it’s small fanbase that’s keeping it alive in an industry that’s constantly in danger. You’re not going to win any points for pissing off the few people who are fans in order to dumb it down for the people who don’t care.

This is stupid. Plus didn’t Captain Marvel Jr change his name to Shazam? Though I guess he probably doesn’t exist in the DCnU. :/
